Pipit & Pectoral

This afternoons walk along the tidal flats of Boundary Bay was not turning up too much.

There were still some American Pipits frequenting the beach,

… along with a few dozen Pectoral Sandpipers.

So I spent a little time with them while they foraged for food on my way back.

I finished with this shot of a Pectoral Sandpiper in one of the tidal pools. I was back up on the dyke when the tide and Black-bellied Plover flock came in. Near the air park I also managed another look at the Ash-throated Flycatcher to end the days walk.

Peregrine & Merlin

The tidal flats at Boundary Bay today were as quiet as my last visit a couple of days ago. I did try for a short while to get some Pipits, but they were not cooperating.

There were a couple of small groups of Pectoral Sandpipers present with a lone Least Sandpiper. The action for the afternoon came courtesy of a Peregrine Falcon. Ever present in this area when the shorebirds are migrating,

… this Peregrine swooped in low along the beach snagging one of the few Pectoral Sandpipers. On the topic of falcons,

Pecs, Baird’s & Peregrine

This afternoon’s stroll along Boundary Bay did not turn up anything out of the ordinary. There were lots of Pectoral Sandpipers along the tidal flats.

Some were active,

… and foraging for food.

While others were resting and preening. There were mostly Western and Least Sandpipers mixed in with them,
