Ash-throated Flycatcher

While it was sunny and clear when I left home, on arriving at Boundary Bay it was foggy along the shoreline. There were a couple of groups of Pectoral Sandpiper, but no Sharp-tailed that I could locate. Oddly enough it was clear once up on the dyke so I decided to check for the Ash-throated Flycatcher on my way back.

Once in the area of the air park it was not long before it showed up,

… hunting dragonflies again. Only this time I managed to capture the action as it tossed one around before it was down the hatch, wings and all.

A little later the Ash-throated Flycatcher popped out again striking I nice pose for me.

Shore & Song Birds

Another brief walk along Boundary Bay was not turning up too much.

This lone Greater Yellowlegs seemed quite content to hang out around the pilings,

… and was quite cooperative on the photo front.

The other consistent shorebirds of late have been the Pectoral Sandpipers. With not much else showing up I headed back along the dyke.

Along the way I came across some Savannah Sparrows,

… and a small group of Yellow-rumped Warblers.

All were busy foraging for insects in the vegetation, with the warblers being a little less camera shy.

Pipit & Pectoral

This afternoons walk along the tidal flats of Boundary Bay was not turning up too much.

There were still some American Pipits frequenting the beach,

… along with a few dozen Pectoral Sandpipers.

So I spent a little time with them while they foraged for food on my way back.

I finished with this shot of a Pectoral Sandpiper in one of the tidal pools. I was back up on the dyke when the tide and Black-bellied Plover flock came in. Near the air park I also managed another look at the Ash-throated Flycatcher to end the days walk.
