Dickcissel

Talk about a mixed bag of weather in the Vancouver area today. Sun, clouds, wind, rain, hail, snow and ending with sun. While volunteering at Reifel this afternoon there was a couple of times I ended up taking shelter under the trees. It was quiet on the birding front at the sanctuary, so I headed into the Ladner area on my way home. The reason for this detour,

I believe this is only the second record for British Columbia. The Dickcissel is usually not seen west of the prairies.

Fortunately it was sunny again and I managed a few shots. Another addition to my life photo list was a good way to end the day.

Bushtit Nest

Another mixed bag on the weather front for today’s walk in the South Arm Marshes. The goal for this afternoon,

One of natures little marvels I try capture each year.

This area has always been a reliable spot for me over the years.

A fun afternoon watching this Bushtit pair work on their nest.

Red-tailed Hawk

It did perk up as the day progressed and I headed out to the North 40. The goal being to see if any new song birds had shown up. Other than the arrival of some Rufous Hummingbirds, it was mostly the usual suspects. As is also the norm for this area, there were lots of raptors overhead.

The only shot of the afternoon was this of a Red-tailed Hawk.
