Western Sandpipers & Plovers

An interesting find out on Boundary Bay this afternoon, a Little Stint. I headed out that way and on arrival learned they had lost track of the bird. I came prepared and had my boots on and decided to walk the beach while I was there. After walking close to the dyke, I checked out the groups of shore birds moving around way out on the tidal flats.

There were lots of Western Sandpipers,

… and Black-bellied Plovers on the move.

Unfortunately I had no luck in relocating the Stint.

Ruff

A quiet afternoon at Reifel visitor wise, but there were a few interesting birds around. Sightings from earlier included a Ruff, Red-necked Phalarope and Green Heron.

First up was the Ruff in the west field. This appears to be the same escapee first seen at Boundary Bay just over a month ago.

The same three bands high on the left leg and two low on the right. Next was the Red-necked Phalarope and while I did get to see it, it was too far off for photos.

Around the tower I managed to see one of the Bullock’s Oriole,

… and some Cedar Waxwings. As for the Green Heron, sadly I could not relocate it.

Sora

There was not much happening at Reifel this afternoon, so I stopped for a while at the base of the tower. The plan was to try and get the Blackbirds on the cattails. While waiting something caught my attention along the edge of the reeds.

A juvenile Sora had come out into the open. Turns out there were actually two of them,

… and they were busy popping in and out of view going back and forth.

As luck would have it, one of them actually made its way closer to the tower and provided some great photo opportunities.
