Yellow-rumped Warblers

The warbler quest started off in Deas Island Park this afternoon. While there were lots around, including a brief glimpse of another Townsend’s, none were alighting in spots that were any good for photos. Not wanting to end the day empty handed, I stopped by the North 40 on my way home.

While I had great late afternoon light,

… and plenty of Yellow-rumped Warblers,

… getting them in the open was proving difficult again.

But that is what keeps us going back out there, always striving for the better shot.

Osprey Mating

It has been about two weeks since I noted they had returned, so I headed out to the Osprey nesting site today. I was hoping to find them on eggs in the nest, but when I arrived the female was sitting there alone. It was not long before the male showed up and I was in a good spot to capture the following series of photos of the Osprey mating.

After this he left to return some time later with a fish for her. After she finished eating it in a nearby tree, there was some more mating behaviour. Hopefully it won’t be much longer before they are on eggs and the countdown can begin for the arrival of young.

Hummingbird Nest

What a difference a week makes. It has been that long since my first visit to this hummingbird nest. At that time the chicks were fairly new, their eyes not open yet.

This afternoon the chicks are noticeably bigger and eyes open.

Here the adult female has arrived to feed them. It won’t be long now before they will be visible all the time above the top of the nest.
