{"id":4693,"date":"2016-12-11T20:39:07","date_gmt":"2016-12-12T04:39:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/crazym.ca\/?p=4693"},"modified":"2016-12-11T20:39:07","modified_gmt":"2016-12-12T04:39:07","slug":"red-breasted-sapsucker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/crazym.ca\/?p=4693","title":{"rendered":"Red-breasted Sapsucker"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Given the weather of late there were not a lot of people&nbsp;at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reifelbirdsanctuary.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Reifel<\/a> this afternoon when I showed up to help out on the trails. For those that&nbsp;were, there was a little break in the skies and some sunshine.&nbsp;The morning walk had seen the&nbsp;Red-breasted Sapsuckers, but not the Bohemian Waxwings. So I started off down the east dyke trail to try for the Sapsuckers again.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4690\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4690\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"480\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4690\" alt=\"Golden-crowned Sparrow\" src=\"http:\/\/crazym.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/GCSP040.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/crazym.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/GCSP040.jpg 600w, https:\/\/crazym.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/GCSP040-150x120.jpg 150w, https:\/\/crazym.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/GCSP040-300x240.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4690\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Golden-crowned Sparrow<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Still no luck, but one of numerous Golden-crowned Sparrow did strike a pose for me. I then headed off to the centre dyke trail&nbsp;in search of the Waxwings to no avail. Then back to the east dyke where I struck out again for the&nbsp;Sapsuckers.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4691\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4691\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"480\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4691\" alt=\"Raccoon\" src=\"http:\/\/crazym.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Raccoon009.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/crazym.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Raccoon009.jpg 600w, https:\/\/crazym.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Raccoon009-150x120.jpg 150w, https:\/\/crazym.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Raccoon009-300x240.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4691\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Raccoon<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As a consolation I did get this young Raccoon which trotted across the trail. I spent the rest of the afternoon on the inner trails still looking for the Waxwings or anything else interesting that might turn up. The clouds had now rolled&nbsp;in and it was around 4 pm and getting dark. I was making my way back along the east dyke trail when something got my attention.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4692\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4692\" style=\"width: 480px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"600\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4692\" alt=\"Red-breasted Sapsucker\" src=\"http:\/\/crazym.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/RBSA015.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/crazym.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/RBSA015.jpg 480w, https:\/\/crazym.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/RBSA015-120x150.jpg 120w, https:\/\/crazym.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/RBSA015-240x300.jpg 240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 85vw, 480px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4692\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Red-breasted Sapsucker<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Finally one of the Red-breasted Sapsucker. Only problem was having to shoot at ISO 6400&nbsp;and f2.8 at a 60th of a second.&nbsp;Fortunately this shot turned out not too bad.&nbsp;It usually takes a cold snap like we are seeing right now to push these&nbsp;woodpeckers down to this area.
