Then several sparrows started heading for cover in the trees trail side.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4674\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4674\" style=\"width: 480px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"600\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4674\" alt=\"Northern Shrike\" src=\"http:\/\/crazym.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/NSHR056.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/crazym.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/NSHR056.jpg 480w, https:\/\/crazym.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/NSHR056-120x150.jpg 120w, https:\/\/crazym.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/NSHR056-240x300.jpg 240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 85vw, 480px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4674\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Northern Shrike<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>They were being chased by a very active Northern Shrike. While I did get a glimpse of some White-crowned Sparrows, no American Tree Sparrow (they were&nbsp;seen this afternoon). After watching the Shrike and sparrows a little longer I made my way further along the trail to an approaching group of birders and the surprise of the day. They had found a juvenile Gyrfalcon. It was sitting in some cottonwoods being harassed by Northern Harriers. A healthy crop as it was still some distance away, but better than the ones of it roosting in the trees.
