On arriving at <a title=\"George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary\" href=\"http:\/\/www.reifelbirdsanctuary.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Reifel<\/a> to help out on the trails this afternoon there was not too large a crowd. For those that did make it out today,<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3392\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3392\" style=\"width: 480px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3392\" alt=\"Northern Saw-whet Owl\" src=\"http:\/\/crazym.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/NSWO063.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/crazym.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/NSWO063.jpg 480w, https:\/\/crazym.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/NSWO063-120x150.jpg 120w, https:\/\/crazym.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/NSWO063-240x300.jpg 240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 85vw, 480px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3392\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Northern Saw-whet Owl<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8230; there were a couple of Northern Saw-whet Owls along the east dyke trail. This one apparently had a mouse that it ate for those that managed to see it this morning. After spending some time here showing the Saw-whet Owl to visitors I made my way out towards the outer west dyke. My current nemesis bird, the Swamp Sparrow, was still around. At the beginning of the trail across from the tower,<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3393\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3393\" style=\"width: 480px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3393\" alt=\"Hairy Woodpecker\" src=\"http:\/\/crazym.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/HAWO014.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/crazym.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/HAWO014.jpg 480w, https:\/\/crazym.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/HAWO014-120x150.jpg 120w, https:\/\/crazym.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/HAWO014-240x300.jpg 240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 85vw, 480px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3393\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hairy Woodpecker<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8230; I happened across a Hairy Woodpecker. While not uncommon, they are just not seen as often as some of the other woodpeckers.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3394\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3394\" style=\"width: 480px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3394\" alt=\"Hairy Woodpecker\" src=\"http:\/\/crazym.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/HAWO015.jpg\" width=\"480\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/crazym.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/HAWO015.jpg 480w, https:\/\/crazym.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/HAWO015-120x150.jpg 120w, https:\/\/crazym.ca\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/HAWO015-240x300.jpg 240w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 85vw, 480px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3394\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hairy Woodpecker<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This Hairy Woodpecker was busy in the trees right beside the trail and seemed quite unconcerned with those of us that had stopped to watch. The nice light, cooperative bird, can&#8217;t ask for much more than that.<\/p>\n<p>After this I did locate and get another brief look at the Swamp Sparrow, but still no photos. On my way back along the inside trails I observed a Varied Thrush which is also a\u00a0good bird\u00a0for this area.\u00a0All in all, a good day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Another beautiful, but cold day.
