Kingfisher & Lincoln’s

Last night at Reifel it was the 25th annual Corn & Pig Roast.

It was a beautiful evening for it and a good time was had by all. Then it was back there again this afternoon to help out on the trails. There was a good variety of warblers around. Black-throated Grey, Orange-crowned, Townsend’s, Yellow and Yellow-rumped to name a few. Some I managed to see, but no photos of any of them.

There were a couple of Belted Kingfisher working the ponds. Also spotted in the outer ponds today was a Stilt Sandpiper. I did not manage to locate or see it. I believe this is the first sighting for Stilt for this summer/fall migration. Then it was back to the inside trails to check for warblers again. While they were still not cooperating,

… this Lincoln’s Sparrow finally did. I had been watching it for a while,

… but it had been sticking to the ground and mostly out of sight. Eventually it did pop up into the bramble for these shots. Lincoln’s Sparrow have been showing up over the last week in the bay area.

American Tree Sparrow & Lincoln’s Sparrow

Not having had any luck the other day photographing the American Tree Sparrow, I made my way back out to Boundary Bay when I had the chance later this afternoon. Nesting in the northern parts of the country, the American Tree Sparrow is a regular winter migrant seen in this area.

While the opportunities were not much better today,

… this particular bird did provide a chance for a couple of distant shots. I had initially thought the only other birds the American Tree Sparrows were hanging around with were some White-crowned & Song Sparrows. But something else caught my eye,

… this Lincoln’s Sparrow was also mixed in with the group.

Of course being in this part of Boundary Bay it would have been hard not to leave without at least a couple more shots of the Snowy Owls.

Once again there were good numbers of the owls in close to the dyke,

… more than willing to pose for all the onlookers.

Lincoln’s Sparrow & Bald Eagle

One bird that had been spotted at Reifel recently was a Lincoln’s Sparrow.

A sparrow I have not photographed in some time, I managed to locate it today.

It was frequenting the feeder by the tower allowing me to get a few shots.

On my way out through the inside trails I came across this immature Bald Eagle.

This young bird cooperated by stretching …
