Managed a quick walk in the sun this afternoon. There were more people than I expected there would be for a Friday at Reifel. Birding wise it was fairly quiet, but there was one pleasant surprise.
On starting out for my walk one of the Black-crowned Night-Heron was on the move and in the open in an evergreen tree across from the gift shop. The only other action I managed was at the tower.
The Bald Eagles are still frequenting the tree tops here providing some good photo opportunities.
Finally getting a photo of a Swamp Sparrow earlier this month does not mean I now put it on the back burner. The photographer in me is always striving for a better shot. There a few spots locally where they continue to be seen and this afternoon I was back at Reiflel. Recently they have been frequenting the reeds right across from the tower. While watching from the base of the tower it was not long before I heard and then saw the Swamp Sparrows. There were two that I could see this afternoon.
While spending a lot of time foraging down low amongst the reeds,
… they would occasionally pop up. When they did so, you just had to hope for an unobstructed view. I lucked out with these shots of one of the Swamp Sparrows.
The challenge of late has been finding a spot to go where the fog is not. While it appeared to be clearing when I started off in Boundary Bay, it was not long before it started drifting in again. Before calling it a day,
… I did manage this shot of a Ruby-crowned Kinglet.
